Kenya is strengthening its position as East Africa’s healthcare distribution hub as expanding trade corridors and cross-border supply chains unlock new commercial opportunities across the region’s rapidly growing healthcare sector.

The momentum comes ahead of WHX in Nairobi 2026, East Africa’s leading healthcare trade exhibition, which will take place from September 16–18, 2026, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The event, now in its 10th edition and formerly known as Medic East Africa, is expected to attract more than 5,500 healthcare professionals, 200 exhibitors from over 30 countries, and record 22% year-on-year exhibitor growth alongside an 81% expansion in exhibition space.

Recent market forecasts indicate East Africa’s health and wellness market is valued at USD 16.8 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 23.6 billion by 2034, driven by population growth, rising healthcare demand and continued investment across the care continuum. The region’s hospitals market is estimated at USD 9.25 billion, while the pharmaceutical market is projected at USD 2.39 billion, highlighting growing opportunities for manufacturers, distributors and healthcare investors.

Kenya’s established logistics infrastructure, strategic location and regional trade connections continue to strengthen its role as the gateway for healthcare products entering East Africa. However, industry stakeholders note that further growth will depend on improved trade facilitation, harmonised regulations and stronger collaboration across the East African Community.

WHX in Nairobi will bring together manufacturers, distributors, hospital buyers, logistics providers, technology companies and policymakers to strengthen partnerships, improve procurement and expand healthcare access across the region.

As part of the broader WHX Africa portfolio, alongside editions in Lagos and Johannesburg, the exhibition serves as a commercial platform connecting international suppliers with regional buyers and decision-makers.

The 2025 edition generated an estimated USD 84.19 million in business transactions, underlining the growing importance of healthcare exhibitions in facilitating trade and investment.

“WHX in Nairobi is where East Africa’s healthcare ecosystem comes together to do business,” said Tom Coleman, Portfolio Director – Healthcare at Informa Markets. “As regional trade corridors strengthen and healthcare supply chains become more connected, Nairobi is increasingly the place where manufacturers, distributors, hospital groups and policymakers can build the partnerships that move products, improve access and shape the next phase of healthcare delivery across the region.”

The exhibition comes at a time when East Africa continues to rely heavily on imported medical devices, diagnostics and pharmaceutical products, making procurement, logistics and supply chain efficiency increasingly important.

According to World Bank data cited by the organisers, Kenya’s health expenditure accounted for 5.76% of GDP, with per capita health spending estimated at USD 327.76, reflecting sustained investment opportunities across the healthcare value chain.

The exhibition will feature eight key sectors:

  • Medical devices and equipment
  • Disposables and consumer healthcare products
  • Orthopaedics and physiotherapy
  • Imaging and diagnostics
  • Healthcare services
  • Digital health and health IT
  • Healthcare infrastructure
  • Laboratory technology and diagnostics

Organisers say the event aims to strengthen regional healthcare delivery by facilitating technology transfer, business partnerships and efficient supply chains.
