Migori Youth’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at the Vapor Grounds after a hard-fought 3–2 loss to Equity Bank FC in a thrilling league encounter.
Equity began strongly, pinning Migori in their own half during the opening minutes. The pressure paid off when George Kamau capitalised on a defensive lapse to score from close range. Moments later, Sydney Ogutu on loan from Gor Mahia doubled the hosts’ advantage with a spectacular long-range volley that struck the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.
Despite the early setback, Migori Youth gradually settled into the game, with Churchill “Chicha” Otieno and Fred Ologi posing constant threats in attack. Ologi’s powerful runs and accurate crosses troubled the hosts, but the visitors failed to convert their chances.
Equity’s goalkeeper was booked for time-wasting just before halftime, but the hosts held on to a 2–0 lead at the break.
After the restart, Migori pushed forward with greater intent, only for Equity to extend their lead in the 57th minute through Omar Kipng’etich’s well-taken penalty.
The visitors, however, refused to give in. Ologi pulled one back with a calm finish, igniting a spirited comeback. Even after Otieno was sent off, Migori kept fighting, and substitute Woodvine Okoth reduced the deficit further with a sharp strike to make it 3–2.
The final minutes saw relentless pressure from Migori Youth, with Kelly Collince forcing a superb save from the Equity goalkeeper. Tempers flared briefly as an Equity official was booked for delaying play, but the visitors could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Despite the defeat, Migori’s resilience and determination drew praise from fans and officials alike. The result leaves them second in the standings, level on 13 points with the league leaders but trailing on goal difference.
Migori Youth will look to bounce back in their next fixture as they aim to maintain their strong start to the campaign.
