Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, has urged the people of Ol Kalou Constituency to elect a leader who will ensure continuity and fast-track development in the upcoming parliamentary by-election scheduled for 16 July 2026.
CS Miano emphasized the importance of choosing a capable and experienced leader who can complete the unfinished agenda of the late Hon. Arch. David Kiaraho.
The by-election comes following the death of the former MP, leaving the constituency with only about one year remaining before the next general election cycle.
Miano noted that the incoming Member of Parliament would serve for approximately 370 days, a period she described as too short for “learning curves or distractions.”
She argued that the constituency requires a focused and results-oriented leader who understands the needs of the people and can immediately mobilize resources to sustain ongoing development projects.
“Ol Kalou needs absolute focus and a proven track record of delivery,” Miano stated, adding that the constituency deserves “momentum, not experiments.”
The Cabinet Secretary called on voters to prioritize stability, accountability, and continuity at the ballot, saying the constituency’s progress should not be interrupted during the transition period.
She further urged residents to elect a representative who would remain accessible to the people while relentlessly pursuing the completion of projects initiated under the late Kiaraho’s leadership.
Her remarks are expected to influence political discussions in the constituency as parties and aspiring candidates intensify campaigns ahead of the by-election.
Political observers say the race is likely to center on the legacy of the late MP and the promise of continuity in development.
Miano also invoked a message of hope and restoration, quoting the biblical verse Joel 2:25, which says: “God will give you back more than you’ve lost.”
The statement has sparked debate among local leaders and residents, with supporters viewing it as a call for unity and sustained progress, while critics may interpret it as an indirect political endorsement ahead of the highly anticipated contest.
The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to attract significant national attention due to the constituency’s political influence in Nyandarua County and the growing interest surrounding succession politics after Kiaraho’s passing.
