Korogocho Ward MCA Absalom Matach has claimed he played a central role in the release of Nairobi County bursary funds, saying his intervention pushed the Controller of Budget to approve the disbursement.

Matach alleged that without his pressure, the funds would have remained delayed, denying hundreds of needy students an opportunity to continue with their education.

The MCA recalled how last year he led a section of Nairobi MCAs to the office of Margaret Nyakang’o, demanding the immediate release of bursary allocations for the county. The visit reportedly attracted dramatic scenes as ward representatives pressed for action.

“We could not sit back and watch our students suffer. We had to push for what rightfully belongs to them,” Matach said.

He confirmed that more than 800 students from Korogocho Ward who successfully applied for the bursary will receive their cheques this Thursday.

The funds are expected to benefit learners in secondary schools, colleges and tertiary institutions.

The development comes amid broader concerns over delays in county fund approvals, with MCAs in the past accusing oversight offices of slowing down the release of critical allocations.

Matach maintained that he will continue to champion education support programmes in the ward, insisting that access to bursaries remains key to uplifting vulnerable families in Korogocho.
