Thousands of members of Prophet David Owuor’s Repentance and Holiness Ministry gathered at Uhuru Park on Sunday to celebrate what the church described as the healing of more than 20 people who had previously been undergoing HIV/AIDS treatment.

The worshippers sang, prayed and praised God while holding placards reading “Ukimwi Umepona” (AIDS has been healed). They thanked Prophet Owuor for what they described as miraculous healings, including that of Peter Oyan, who the church says was healed after previously living with HIV.

Peter Oyan, whose case previously attracted public attention following reports alleging that he had faked the illness, had instructed a team of lawyers led by Danstan Omari, Cliff Ombeta and Shadrack Wambui to sue K24 TV and journalist Samir for defamation over the publication of the story.

However, through his lawyers and after reviewing a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which he said confirmed that he had previously been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, Oyan instructed his legal team to withdraw the case and forgive the media house and the journalist.

In a statement read by his lawyer, Shadrack Wambui, Oyan said that, in the spirit of forgiveness and in accordance with the teachings of his church, he had chosen to forgive.

“Above all, his decision is guided by the teachings of Holy Scripture: ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.'” (Ephesians 4:32), the statement read.

It added: “Having reflected upon the teachings of Christ, Mr. Peter Oyan concluded that forgiveness was the most appropriate course of action.”

Speaking on behalf of the legal team, lead counsel Danstan Omari thanked the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for what he described as their professional handling of the matter. He noted that investigators recorded statements from several witnesses, including medical personnel, during the investigations.

Note: The claims of miraculous healing are attributed to the church and its members. Such claims have not been independently verified in the text provided.
