Teso South MP Mary Emase has hinted at the possibility of stepping down from the parliamentary race ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying she is ready to hand over power peacefully and retire honourably.
Emase, who is currently serving as the Teso South MP, said she has done what she could for her constituents and is now considering leaving the race.
“He is my son, and I have done what I could. If you ask me, Imwatok is the best person to take over from me,” Emase said.
The MP also praised Peter Imwatok for what she described as his maturity and development record, saying he stands a better chance of building on her achievements.
Emase said other candidates seeking the Teso South seat have not demonstrated the same seriousness about development.
“Imwatok has shown maturity, and we are telling him that the race is open and we shall support him. He is not new to politics. He has done well for Nairobi residents, and now it is his time to focus on home,” she added.
Her remarks could significantly reshape the political contest in Teso South ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly if she ultimately withdraws from the race and throws her support behind Imwatok.
