Mountain View MCA Maurice Ochieng has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and protecting small businesses in the ward, noting that they play a critical role in sustaining many households.
Speaking during the distribution of business support equipment, Ochieng said a significant number of women depend on small-scale enterprises to provide for their families, making it necessary for both the county and national governments to invest in the growth of local businesses.
“We have today distributed protective gear, business umbrellas and other clothing to help traders conduct their businesses safely and comfortably. We are also working closely with various partners to explore more opportunities for promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) so that more people, especially women, can benefit,” said Ochieng.
The ward representative noted that empowering small businesses remains one of the most effective ways of improving livelihoods and strengthening the local economy.
On Wednesday, Ochieng distributed umbrellas and other business attire to several trader groups to shield them from harsh weather conditions, including excessive sunshine and rain. He said the initiative will be expanded to reach more groups across the ward.
“On the issue of protecting businesses, we are working around the clock with both levels of government to ensure that more groups benefit from these empowerment programmes,” he added.
Residents and beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, saying the equipment will help improve their working conditions and reduce operational challenges caused by unpredictable weather.
