Mabatini Ward MCA Hon. Wilfred Oluoch Odalo has been unanimously re-elected as the Chairperson of the Nairobi County Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee, securing the position for the remainder of the Assembly’s term.
The seasoned legislator, who has led the Committee for the past four years, expressed gratitude to fellow Members for renewing their confidence in his leadership and pledged to continue steering the committee in ensuring prudent management of county resources.
Speaking after his re-election, Odalo described the unanimous vote as a testament to the trust Members have in his leadership and the Committee’s performance.
“It was a wonderful day. We conducted elections as prescribed under our Standing Orders, and members elected me unanimously without an opponent. I thank my party, ODM, for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to complete the assignment entrusted to me years ago,” he said.
Odalo defended his record at the helm of the Committee, arguing that Nairobi residents have benefitted significantly from strategic budget allocations and enhanced oversight of county expenditure.
He pointed to the recently approved County budget as a key milestone and urged the Nairobi County Executive to implement it faithfully to guarantee improved service delivery.
“We are operating in a very fluid environment, but with proper implementation and oversight we shall achieve our objectives. We expect the Executive to strictly adhere to the budget passed by the Assembly. If implemented as approved, Nairobians will enjoy better services, improved roads and enhanced bursary programmes,” he said.
The Budget Committee Chair maintained that effective implementation of the approved budget would accelerate development across the city and ensure residents receive value for public funds.
Odalo also thanked Nairobi residents, particularly those from Mathare, for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.
His deputy, Hon. Emily Oduor, congratulated him on the re-election, describing him as a transparent and development-focused leader who has earned the trust of both Assembly members and Nairobi residents.
“He has served Members and Nairobians with utmost respect. His leadership has been characterized by transparency, accountability and commitment to development. I congratulate him on this deserved victory,” said Oduor.
Odalo’s re-election is expected to provide continuity in the Assembly’s budget-making and oversight processes as Nairobi County implements its development agenda during the final years of the current term.
