Mugumoini Ward MCA Jared Akama has been unanimously re-elected as the chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of the Nairobi City County Assembly.
Akama, who is serving his second term as a Member of the County Assembly, secured the backing of committee members, who overwhelmingly endorsed him to continue leading the committee.
He will be deputised by Khamisi Malaye, with the committee members pledging to work together to strengthen oversight of the Nairobi County Executive.
Speaking after his re-election, Akama pledged to sustain rigorous scrutiny of the Executive, particularly on matters relating to legal procedures, procurement and the implementation of major county projects.
The JLAC has played a key role in oversight of the county administration, including scrutinising multi-million-shilling contractual arrangements and programmes such as garbage collection, the school feeding programme and procurement processes.
Akama said the committee would remain firm in ensuring that the Executive operates within the law and that public resources are utilised transparently and in the best interests of Nairobi residents.
The re-election comes as Akama prepares to defend his Mugumoini Ward seat for a third consecutive term. He is expected to seek re-election on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the 2027 General Election.
His continued leadership of JLAC is expected to place him at the centre of key legal, procurement and accountability matters as the county government undertakes major projects and programmes.
