Mugumoini Ward MCA Jared Akama has retained his position as chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) of the Nairobi City County Assembly.
Akama was unanimously endorsed by members of the committee to continue leading the key oversight organ, with Khamisi Malaye elected as his deputy.
The re-election gives Akama another opportunity to steer the committee as it scrutinises the operations of the Nairobi County Executive, particularly on matters of legality, procurement, contracts and implementation of county projects.
Speaking after securing the position, Akama pledged to maintain firm oversight of the Executive and ensure that county departments operate within the law.
He said the committee would continue scrutinising the use of public funds and major county programmes to promote accountability, transparency and value for money for Nairobi residents.
JLAC has previously examined several major county initiatives and contractual arrangements, including garbage collection, the school feeding programme and procurement processes.
Akama is serving his second term as Mugumoini Ward MCA and is expected to seek a third term in the 2027 General Election on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
His retention as JLAC chair is expected to keep him at the centre of critical legal, procurement and accountability discussions within the Nairobi County Assembly.
