Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has reaffirmed her commitment to transforming education in the constituency through sustained investment in school infrastructure, bursaries and learner support programmes.

Speaking after a consultative meeting with headteachers and principals from schools across the constituency, Elachi said education remains the cornerstone of her development agenda and pledged to work closely with school administrators to ensure every child has access to a quality learning environment.

The meeting reviewed development projects completed over the past year and outlined priority initiatives set for implementation during the current financial year.

“We assessed the progress we have made together and agreed on the next phase of projects that will further improve our schools. Investing in education is investing in the future of Dagoretti North,” Elachi said.

Over the past few years, the constituency has witnessed significant investment in education through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), including the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, science laboratories, sanitation facilities and other learning infrastructure.

Thousands of needy students have also benefited from bursaries, while schools have received additional support through programmes targeting girls’ education and improved learning environments.

Among the flagship projects is the construction of a new 600-capacity multipurpose hall at Lavington Girls’ Secondary School, which will provide students with a modern dining and assembly facility. Gatina Primary School has also benefited from the construction and equipping of a modern science laboratory aimed at strengthening practical learning.

Elachi noted that the next phase of development will focus on expanding classroom space to accommodate the growing student population, upgrading laboratories and ICT facilities, improving sanitation, and strengthening school security.

She also reiterated her commitment to ensuring that no learner drops out of school because of financial constraints, saying the constituency will continue prioritising bursary allocations for vulnerable students in secondary schools, colleges and universities.

The MP praised headteachers and principals for partnering with her office in identifying priority projects and ensuring accountability in the implementation of NG-CDF-funded programmes.

She said the consultative approach has enabled the constituency to channel resources where they are most needed while delivering projects that directly improve teaching and learning outcomes.

“As leaders, teachers and parents, we have a shared responsibility to create schools where every learner can thrive. By working together, we are building institutions that will empower our children with knowledge, skills and opportunities for a brighter future,” Elachi said.

Education stakeholders welcomed the continued engagement, saying the regular consultations have enhanced collaboration between schools and the constituency leadership while ensuring development projects respond to the real needs of learners and teachers.

With several new projects scheduled to commence this financial year, Elachi said her vision is to make Dagoretti North one of Nairobi’s leading constituencies in education by providing modern learning facilities, supporting teachers and ensuring every child has an opportunity to succeed regardless of their background.
