Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip Mark Mugambi, popularly known as Ronaldo, has hinted at a possible bid for the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ conference held in Starehe Constituency, Mugambi said the party currently lacks a formidable candidate to challenge rivals for the influential Senate position. He noted that leaders and residents from Starehe had encouraged him to consider vying, citing his experience and appeal among the youth.
“The residents of Starehe Constituency have endorsed me to contest for the Nairobi Senate seat, and I appreciate the confidence they have shown in me. We need youthful leaders who will effectively champion the interests of Nairobi at the Senate,” Mugambi said, adding that he would take time to reflect before making a final decision.
The meeting was also attended by Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader Antony Kiragu, who announced his intention to vie for the UDA Nairobi County chairperson position. Kiragu said the race for the party’s county leadership had narrowed significantly following the exit of other aspirants.

“Initially, we had three contestants for the chairmanship—Governor Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya and myself. Governor Sakaja defected to Baba’s camp, while Gakuya joined Wamunyoro, leaving me as the remaining candidate,” Kiragu said.
The conference was hosted by Ngara Ward MCA Chege Mwaura, who also chairs the Nairobi County Assembly Public Accounts Committee. Mwaura called for unity and cohesion within the party as it prepares for grassroots elections ahead of the 2027 polls.

“We are ready for the grassroots elections. This marks the beginning of strengthening UDA as we head towards the General Election,” Mwaura said, confirming that he will be contesting the Starehe Constituency chairperson position.
The leaders emphasized the need for party unity and early mobilization, saying a strong grassroots foundation will be key to UDA’s success in Nairobi in 2027.
