A Member of the County Assembly (MCA) from Korogocho has cautioned youth against engaging in violence or disruption during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Delegates Convention (NDC) scheduled for Friday in Nairobi.
The warning comes amid reports that a section of university students—whom the MCA described as “misguided youths”—have allegedly threatened to disrupt the high-stakes political meeting.
In a statement issued ahead of the convention, the MCA urged young people to exercise restraint and avoid being used to advance political interests that could lead to chaos or confrontation.
“We are aware of plans by some individuals to mobilize youths to cause chaos during the ODM convention. I want to urge our young people not to be used as tools for violence. This is a democratic process that must be respected,” the MCA said.
The ODM National Delegates Convention, set for March 27, 2026, is expected to bring together delegates and top party organs from across the country to deliberate on key leadership and strategic issues.
The meeting comes at a critical time for the party, which is undergoing internal restructuring and positioning itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Party officials have indicated that the convention will address governance matters, ratify key resolutions, and outline ODM’s political direction in the coming months.
Security agencies are expected to be on high alert during the event to ensure order is maintained and delegates can carry out their deliberations without interference.
The Korogocho MCA further emphasized the importance of peaceful political engagement, noting that Nairobi residents, especially youths, should prioritize constructive participation over unrest.
“Let us protect our city and uphold peace. Political differences should be expressed through dialogue, not disorder,” he added.
The convention is expected to attract significant political attention, with its outcomes likely to shape the party’s future trajectory.
