The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reportedly launched investigations into four officers attached to Nairobi County’s Parking Department over allegations of bribery involving the billing and renewal of seasonal tickets for public service vehicles (PSVs).
The officers said to be under investigation are Paul Wanga, Deputy Director of Operations; Emmanuel Chanzo, who is in charge of the system; Fiona Kimani, the officer in charge of PSV operations; and Jane Njoki, a staff member.
According to a communication attributed to the EACC, the Commission received complaints alleging abuse of office and corrupt practices by the officers.
“We have received complaints from the City Hall investigations department accusing these officers of abusing their offices and perpetrating corruption,” part of the communication reportedly states.
Sources further claim that the four officers have since scaled down their activities as investigations continue, amid efforts to clean up the county’s parking management system.
It is said that Wanga and the other officers held a meeting with senior officials in the Finance Department and proposed that the system be cleaned up and all payments uploaded afresh.
Some sources says that the move was intended to conceal irregularities within the system. “The investigations are active and we do not want to say more because that would jeopardize the whole process,” the communication added.
The EACC has not publicly released further details regarding the investigations and as investigations continues.
