Legend and former Cricket Kenya (CK) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tom Tikolo turned down a bribe to step down from the Cricket Kenya (CK) chairmanship race.
Tikolo who has expressed his interest in leading the national office was offered substantial amount of money and a new car by the Chief Director of Mars Logistics Limited and Nairobi Gymkhana Club team manager Bevesh Gohil to step down in his favour.
The offer was made during a meeting of aspirants where they were supposed to come up with a line up.
Bevesh claimed that he had the resources to oil the campaigns and therefore should be allowed to run for the chairmanship and instead offered Tikolo to run as the vice chairman.
Tikolo rejected the offer saying he cannot be compromised with any form gift to shelve his ambitions.
In the proposed line up Bevesh as to run for chairmanship, Tikolo (Vice Chairman), Payesh Rabadia (treasurer), Pearlyne Omamo (Women Representative) and Alfred Njuguna (County Representative)
An argument ensued and then the others who were in the meeting excused themselves to give room to Bevesh and Tikolo to come to an understanding on the chairmanship position.
Tikolo stood to his ground that he will not surrender and he is incorruptible and walked out the venue leaving behind Bevesh and his cronies.
Behind the scenes, candidates are reportedly aligning themselves in strategic camps, signalling alliances that could influence the final outcome.
For the Chairmanship, Bhavesh Gohil will face off with former national team captain and Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) chair Tom Tikolo, setting up a high-profile contest for the top seat.
In the race for Vice Chair, lawyer and former women’s team captain Pearlyne Omamo has been elected unopposed.
The race for Treasurer pits Alfred Njuguna Njoroge against Chidambaran Subramanian, while the Director of County Associations seat will see Damian Omonywa face off with Vidya Chandrasekhar. In the Director of Women’s Cricket contest, Charity Wambui will battle Sarah Kemunto Mayaka.
The electoral process is being overseen by a five-member Independent Election Panel led by Aggrey Chabeda
The panel has rolled out a detailed timetable, with April 2 marking the deadline for submission of delegates’ nomination forms, April 7 set for scrutiny and verification, and the final delegates list scheduled for publication on April 10.
With the countdown now firmly underway, attention shifts to April 19, a decisive moment that could determine whether Kenyan cricket begins a path to recovery or slides deeper into crisis.
