Kenyan EA SPORTS FC 27 players will compete for a chance to represent the country at an international tournament in Miami as Red Bull Wings Cup seeks to connect local gaming talent with global competition.

The national competition will culminate in a final on November 7 at Century Cinemax Sarit Centre in Nairobi, where the top 16 players will battle for the opportunity to advance to the World Final in Miami, United States, in January 2027.

The Kenyan champion will compete against national representatives from nearly 80 countries, offering local talent an opportunity to test their skills against international opponents.

The tournament comes as esports continues to develop into a commercial industry encompassing sponsorships, broadcasting, digital content production and professional gaming. In Kenya, the growth presents opportunities to turn rising participation in competitive gaming into careers and businesses for young people.

“Red Bull Wings Cup is an exciting opportunity for Kenya’s top EA SPORTS FC players to go head-to-head, showcase their skills and compete for a chance to represent the country on the global stage,” said Johann Mackboush, Red Bull Wings Cup Sportive Director.

Two routes to the national final

Red Bull Wings Cup features two qualification pathways: a University League targeting students and an Open League played online.

The two routes give eligible players different opportunities to compete for a place among the 16 finalists who will meet in Nairobi.

For Kenyan gamers, international tournaments offer exposure to higher levels of competition, different playing styles and gaming communities beyond the country’s borders. Such experiences can also help players build networks and develop their competitive skills.

Esports presents growing commercial opportunities

Beyond individual competition, esports has developed into a broader business ecosystem involving tournament organisers, sponsors, broadcasters, content creators and gaming technology providers.

According to Grand View Research, the global esports market was valued at an estimated US$2.6 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$13.3 billion by 2033.

The industry’s expansion is expected to be supported by investment in tournaments, sponsorships, media rights and live-streaming platforms.

Kenya’s developing competitive gaming scene, supported by university competitions, organised tournaments and online communities, could create opportunities beyond professional play.

These include event management, sports marketing, broadcasting, digital content production, team management and gaming technology.

Building a sustainable esports industry

Turning growing interest in competitive gaming into a sustainable industry will require more than opportunities for individual players to compete internationally.

Regular tournaments, structured talent development, access to suitable gaming facilities and stronger commercial partnerships could help establish clearer pathways from amateur participation to professional competition.

For Kenya’s aspiring esports players, Red Bull Wings Cup offers a platform to showcase their abilities, while the wider industry’s development could create opportunities for young people interested in careers across gaming, media and sports business.
