Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor and forward Shariff Musa have won the FKF Premier League coach and player of the month for October respectively.
The duo were announced winners in an award ceremony held at the sidelines of the team’s training session on Friday, 21 November at the Kasarani Annex.
Akonnor led the Kenyan giants to a 100% record in October, where they not only won all their three matches, but also kept a clean sheet in the whole month.
K’Ogalo beat KCB by a solitary goal on 5 October, handed Posta Rangers a 3-0 beating, before concluding the month with a 2-0 victory over Mathare United.
To win the award, the Ghanaian tactician beat stiff competition from AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani as well as Patrick Odhiambo and Charles Okere of Kakamega Homeboyz and Tusker respectively.
Speaking after receiving the award and Ksh75,000 cash prize, the 51-year-old Ghanian national attributed the performance to a collective effort from the team and technical bench .
“Winning this award would not be possible without the support of my whole backroom staff who have worked hard for the team,” said coach Akonnor.
“We have also received great support from the management led by club supremo Ambrose Rachier as well as Deputy Club Patron Eliud Owalo, loyal Kogallo fans popular Green Army and everyone involved with the team including the stewards,he spoke to Hivisasa Sports writer after getting the awards. I am also happy that our efforts are finally paying off after a bad start to the season where we lost our first match. It is now a challenge to keep working hard and making the players believe in what we do,” he added.
For Musa, he scored the opening goal in Gor Mahia’s win against Mathare United, registered an assist against Posta Rangers , as well as created several goal scoring opportunities during the match.
