Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications and Lugari parliamentary hopeful Philip Etale has accused Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera of engaging in intimidation and misusing parliamentary oversight mechanisms for political gain.

Speaking during the launch of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre at Munyuki Comprehensive School, an event officiated by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Etale criticized Nabwera’s alleged use of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to pursue personal political battles.

Etale argued that any concerns regarding Governor Barasa’s past leadership at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) should be handled objectively and through proper channels. He noted that Barasa left the role over six years ago and questioned why the current KETRACO leadership had not been summoned instead.

“If there is a genuine issue, the committee should engage the current office holders rather than targeting individuals for political reasons,” Etale said.

His remarks follow reports in a local daily alleging that Governor Barasa had been summoned by the Public Accounts Committee to respond to audit queries related to the alleged misappropriation of KSh14 billion during his tenure at KETRACO.

Etale further called on Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Lugari to remain independent and work collaboratively for the benefit of residents. He warned against what he described as attempts by the MP to control or intimidate local leaders.

“You were elected by the people and should serve them without fear or coercion. Leadership should not be about issuing directives on who to engage or which meetings to attend,” he added.

The exchange underscores growing political tensions in Lugari constituency, with leaders trading accusations as scrutiny over past public financial management intensifies.
