City Hall has put in place measures that will ensure all illegal billboards across the city are promptly pulled down.
The move is aimed at helping the County collect at least Sh.1.4 billion in target revenue from billboards.
Built Environment and Urban Planning County Executive Patrick Mbogo and his counterpart Ibrahim Auma told the planning committee that new interventions have been improvised for enforcement.
The committee chaired by Baba Dogo MCA Geoffrey Majiwa learnt that the county is underperforming in terms of revenue collection from the sector.
The county deals with at least 1,200 billboards a year but battles to deal with illegal billboards.
Notorious areas for illegal billboards include Olengurone Road, Riverside Drive,Waiyaki Way,Uhuru Highway,Oloitoktok Road ,Dennis Pritt Road and Argwings Kodhek Road
The county collects approximately Sh90 million after every three months from a possible Sh.300 million.
This means that the revenue collected is less than half the set target.
So far,the county has done mapping of all the illegal structures,areas with illegal billboards and improvised a multi-agency compliance and enforcement co-operation approach.
The sector has also intensified enforcement against billboard companies with outstanding advertising fee arrears.
Mr.Mbogo told the committee that non-compliant billboard structures were defaced in accordance with enforcement procedures.
However committee members hit at the planning officials for colluding with advertisers to flout enforcement rules.
