Mountain View Ward MCA Maurice Ochieng has called on members of the Luo community in the ward to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the move would help safeguard the interests Raila Odinga left behind.
Speaking to members of the Luo community in Mountain View, Ochieng said the community should remain supportive of the broad-based government, which he said was part of the political arrangement left by the late ODM Party Leader.
“We respect Baba so much and, truth be told, he left us in the broad-based government. So don’t be cheated or swayed by naysayers in the opposition,” Ochieng said.
The MCA further urged community leaders to take an active role in mobilising support for both his bid to serve a third term as Mountain View Ward MCA and President Ruto’s re-election.
“You are my ambassadors. Support me, the President and other ODM leaders that you see next to you because that’s the only way to jealously protect what Raila left us,” he added.
Ochieng’s appeal comes against the backdrop of renewed political realignments and growing efforts by leaders to consolidate grassroots support ahead of the next General Election.
His call received backing from Luo community elder Joseph Omulo, who said residents were comfortable with Ochieng’s leadership and political direction.
“We are happy and much comfortable with the direction given by Hon. Maurice. Actually, we know him as a leader and under his stewardship we will not go wrong. Because Mountain View Ward ni ODM,” Omulo said.
The meeting provided Ochieng with an opportunity to rally community leaders behind his political agenda while urging them to support leaders he said were aligned with the interests of the Luo community and the legacy of Raila Odinga.
