ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga is on the spot for allegedly brewing tribal politics in leadership positions at the Nairobi County Assembly after it was reported that the party wrote to the Assembly leadership directing members of the Planning Committee to vote for Babadogo MCA Geoffrey Majiwa as the new chairman.
The directive has angered members of the Planning Committee, who have slammed the ODM boss for what they termed as meddling in Assembly affairs. “We are not happy with that letter from the Party Leader of ODM because a committee of the Assembly is not party property. We must condemn such dictatorship in the strongest terms possible,” the committee members said.
They have vowed to maintain the integrity of the committee and elect their preferred choice. “We have Palapala as a senior ranking member of ODM and chair for the same party. How can we be directed by Oburu on what to do? The committee will decide through the ballot and we shall not accept anything short of that,” they added.
The election for the Committee Chairperson will be held next week, where Majiwa and Palapala are expected to face off.
