The ODM Youth League in Westlands Constituency has dismissed remarks by political activist Simon Awene criticizing the party’s decision to front Babadogo Ward MCA Geoffrey Majiwa for the Nairobi County Assembly Planning Committee chairmanship.
Led by Westlands ODM Youth Leader Evans Omondi, the youth leaders urged Kitisuru MCA Alvin Palapala and his supporters to respect the party’s position and refrain from what they termed as divisive politics.
Their remarks come after Awene alleged that ODM had been misled into settling on Majiwa as the preferred candidate for the influential committee position.
“Palapala and Awene cannot purport to know ODM better than party members and leaders. We will not sit back and watch them insult a respected ODM leader like Geoffrey Majiwa. Such attacks are unfortunate and unacceptable,” said Omondi.
The youth leaders further called on members of the Planning Committee to ignore external pressure and support Majiwa’s candidature in line with the party’s directive.
According to Omondi, Majiwa possesses the experience and leadership qualities required to effectively steer the committee and advance Nairobi’s development agenda.
“Majiwa previously served as Mayor of Nairobi and understands the city’s planning needs and governance structures. His experience makes him well suited to lead the committee,” he added.
The election of the Planning Committee Chairperson is expected to take place this week.
