Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya has met the new Confederation of African Football (CAF) Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu, as Kenya steps up preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya, alongside Tanzania and Uganda, will meet next Thursday to develop a joint roadmap for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the three East African nations.

Speaking at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi, Mvurya revealed that the meeting—dubbed the “Pamoja” session—will bring together ministers from the three countries to deliberate on key areas, including visa arrangements and tax exemptions during the continental showpiece.

“There are a number of decisions we will be making next week because we will be having a Pamoja meeting that will bring together ministers to discuss matters such as visas, tax exemptions, among others. CAF will be a key facilitator of the process. We will also be announcing the roadmap that will guide the three East African countries towards AFCON 2027,” said Mvurya.

He reaffirmed the Government of Kenya’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament, noting that preparations are already underway.

“We had a brief courtesy meeting and, first as a government, we congratulate him on his new responsibility and reaffirm our commitment to hosting AFCON. We have a lot of activities ahead to ensure we deliver a successful tournament,” he added.

Mvurya also congratulated Adamu on his promotion to Acting Secretary General, having previously served as CAF’s Director of Competitions.

During the event, the CS also witnessed the official handover ceremony for the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee, welcoming chairperson Nicholas Musonye and incoming CEO Antony Lungaho.

He further commended the CHAN 2025 team, led by CEO Mike Rabar, for successfully delivering the tournament and positioning Kenya as a credible host on the continental and global stage.
