Mountain View MCA Maurice Ochieng has secured another term as Chairperson of the Nairobi City County Assembly Health Committee after being unanimously re-elected by members of the committee.
The outspoken legislator will now steer the committee until the expiry of the current Assembly term in 2027, extending a leadership tenure that members say has been marked by robust oversight and accountability.
Speaking moments after his re-election, Ochieng thanked fellow MCAs for renewing their confidence in him and issued a strong warning to county officials engaged in questionable dealings.
“I want to thank Hon. Members for having faith in me. We have done well over the last four years. I want to put it to the Executive that it will not be business as usual. Nairobi must be safe, and all officials involving themselves in dubious dealings, we shall smoke you out,” said Ochieng.
His re-election was backed unanimously by committee members, who praised his commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring better healthcare services for Nairobi residents.
Hon. Lily Kidenda described Ochieng as a results-oriented leader whose oversight record has earned him the trust of both members and wananchi.
“I want to tell you that our chairman is super. The oversight role has been top-notch, and we should expect even more from him,” said Kidenda.
The unanimous vote is widely seen as a strong endorsement of Ochieng’s leadership, with members expressing confidence that he will continue holding the Executive accountable while pushing for improved service delivery across Nairobi’s health facilities.
