Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have received a major boost following the ongoing inspection tour by CAF officials led by Djibril Diop, who expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and coordination demonstrated by Sports Kenya and other government agencies.

The CAF delegation, currently assessing Kenya’s readiness to host the continental football extravaganza, has been touring key stadiums and training venues alongside officials from Sports Kenya, the Ministry of Defence, and the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES).

At the centre of the successful inspection exercise has been the strong leadership and coordination by Sports Kenya officials led by Director General Timothy Kilimo and his deputy Gabriel Komora, who have adopted a hands-on approach and dedication in incorporating both local stakeholders and the visiting CAF team.

Djibril Diop commended the professionalism and seriousness shown by Sports Kenya in ensuring that Kenya meets CAF standards ahead of AFCON 2027.

“The commitment we have witnessed from Sports Kenya and the Kenyan government is encouraging. There is clear progress, strong coordination, and determination to deliver quality facilities for AFCON 2027,” Diop reportedly noted during the inspection visits.

Sports Kenya has played a critical role in coordinating venue inspections, infrastructure planning, and technical preparations aimed at ensuring Kenya hosts a successful tournament together with Uganda and Tanzania under the Pamoja AFCON 2027 partnership.

Deputy Director Gabriel Komora has been praised for spearheading seamless collaboration between various agencies involved in the preparations. His leadership has ensured inspectors receive detailed updates on the progress of stadium upgrades, training grounds, accommodation facilities, and transport infrastructure.

The inspections come at a time when Kenya has intensified preparations for the tournament, with the government reaffirming its commitment to delivering world-class facilities.

Recent reports indicate that Kenya has already fulfilled key CAF hosting obligations, including payment of the required hosting fee and establishment of a multi-agency Local Organising Committee to oversee preparations.

The government has also accelerated work on major sports infrastructure projects including Talanta Sports City, Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo Stadium, and the Raila Odinga International Sports Complex.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya recently reaffirmed Kenya’s determination to host a world-class AFCON tournament, emphasizing that preparations remain on course and aligned with CAF requirements.

Football Kenya Federation has equally assured stakeholders that Kenya is steadily meeting CAF expectations as infrastructure and operational readiness continue improving.

The positive assessment by Djibril Diop is expected to further boost confidence in Kenya’s ability to successfully host Africa’s biggest football tournament.

For many observers, the dedication shown by Sports Kenya officials led by Gabriel Komora reflects the country’s growing determination to use AFCON 2027 as a platform to showcase Kenya’s sporting potential, infrastructure growth, and hospitality to the entire continent.
