Posta Kenya has shut down 125 branches across the country as part of a sweeping restructuring programme aimed at cutting costs and funding a shift into e-commerce logistics, courier services and digital payments.
The move, which is expected to save the corporation about Sh1 billion annually, comes as Posta seeks to adapt to declining traditional mail volumes and growing demand for parcel delivery services driven by online shopping.
Postmaster General and CEO John Tanui said the corporation is redirecting resources from underperforming physical outlets to high-growth areas such as courier services and digital commerce.
The closures form part of a broader transformation strategy that has seen Posta return to profitability, posting a Sh488 million profit in the 2024/2025 financial year after recording a Sh1.08 billion loss the previous year.
Tanui said the corporation is also seeking strategic investors to help modernise its logistics infrastructure and strengthen its nationwide delivery network.
