Team Kenya endured a challenging second day of swimming competition at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, with all three swimmers in action failing to advance to the finals.
Jeremy Rieck was the first Kenyan in the pool, competing in the men’s 100 metres backstroke. He clocked 59.15 seconds in Heat Four but fell short of securing a place in the final.
Macrine Kolombo also faced a tough challenge in the women’s 100 metres breaststroke, recording 1 minute 23.33 seconds in Heat Two.
In the men’s 100 metres breaststroke, Neo Olengo clocked 1 minute 8.49 seconds in Heat Three. However, neither Kolombo nor Olengo managed to progress to the finals.
With the 100-metre events behind them, attention now shifts to the remaining races as the Kenyan swimmers look to make the most of their time in Dakar.
Kolombo will return to the pool on November 4 for the women’s 200 metres individual medley before concluding her competition on November 5 in the 50 metres breaststroke.
Olengo will next compete in the men’s 50 metres freestyle before wrapping up his campaign on November 5 in the 50 metres breaststroke.
Rieck, who qualified for the men’s 100 metres butterfly final on the opening day, will return to action in the 50 metres butterfly before concluding his campaign on November 5 in the 50 metres backstroke.
Meanwhile, Isabelle Mwangi is yet to begin her campaign. She will make her debut in the women’s 50 metres freestyle before rounding off her competition on November 6 in the 200 metres freestyle.
As the swimming competition progresses, Team Kenya will be hoping for improved performances in the remaining events, with the young swimmers looking to better their times and gain valuable experience against some of the world’s emerging talents.
