The Nairobi City County Assembly Committee on Water and Sanitation has retained Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi and nominated MCA Asli Mohamed as its Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, respectively.

The two legislators were unanimously re-elected to their positions as the Nairobi County Assembly completes the reconstitution of its sectoral committees this week.

Oyugi and Mohamed were endorsed for their continued leadership of the committee, with members citing their contributions to strengthening oversight and accountability in Nairobi’s water sector.

Oyugi has a long-standing presence at City Hall and has been actively involved in matters concerning water distribution and service delivery across the county.

Mohamed, who was nominated through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has also played a key role in strengthening collaboration between the Nairobi County Government and relevant stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector.

The committee is expected to continue scrutinising the county’s water distribution systems, infrastructure projects and service delivery, while pushing for greater accountability in the management of resources allocated to the sector.

Their re-election comes as the County Assembly finalises the reconstitution of its sectoral committees, which are expected to play a central role in overseeing the implementation of programmes by the Nairobi County Executive.
