Whisky is increasingly becoming more than a drink. Around the world, premium whisky brands are embracing culture, craftsmanship and storytelling to create memorable experiences that bring people together. In Kenya, The Singleton is championing this shift through its continued partnership with Nafasi, using gastronomy, art and music to celebrate creativity and meaningful connections.

The Singleton recently renewed its partnership with Nafasi for the fifth edition of A Taste of Expression, held at Como in Tigoni, Limuru. The latest edition placed women at the centre of the experience, bringing together an all-female line-up of creatives whose work demonstrated how food, art, design and music can inspire conversation and self-expression.

Guests embarked on a carefully curated sensory journey where every course, artwork and performance reflected the event’s central theme of celebrating creativity in all its forms.

Speaking during the event, Simon Lapyem, Brand Manager for The Singleton, said the partnership continues to reflect the brand’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences that connect people through creativity.

“At The Singleton, we believe that the most memorable moments are those that bring people together through shared experiences, and A Taste of Expression continues to provide a unique platform for celebrating creativity in its different forms. This edition was special, as it showcased an extraordinary group of women who are shaping culture through food, art, music and design. Their work demonstrates the passion, time and dedication required to create experiences worth savouring, making this a truly exceptional celebration of artistry and connection,” he said.

The culinary experience was led by Como owner and Executive Chef Stephanie Kiragu, popularly known as Steph the Chef. Her five-course menu blended locally sourced Kenyan ingredients with global culinary influences, inviting guests to slow down, savour every flavour and appreciate the craftsmanship behind each dish.

The afternoon began with The Orchard Prelude, pairing The Singleton 12-Year-Old whisky with crisp apple and rhubarb, accompanied by Limuru Camembert. Guests then explored a series of carefully matched dishes and cocktails, including Malindi Harmony, which complemented delicate Malindi cod, and Smoked Harvest, where roasted beetroot and tangerine balanced the smoky richness of Ruaraka duck.

The culinary journey concluded with Highland Ember, a whisky-forward cocktail crafted using The Singleton 18-Year-Old, rich sherry and subtle cocoa spice, paired with aged beef fillet. Dessert featured a Ugandan cacao pudding served with Singleton 18-infused gelato, providing a fitting finale that reflected the whisky’s signature smoothness and balance.

Beyond the dining experience, contemporary artist Angela Wambui transformed the venue into an artistic space through expressive paintings and intricate beadwork exploring identity, emotion and human connection.

Live music by Christine Wambui added warmth and intimacy to the afternoon, while jewellery designer Pardis Khozoei, founder of Sculpt Wear, showcased handcrafted pieces inspired by architecture, modern design and personal storytelling, demonstrating how creativity can take many different forms.

As the official whisky partner, The Singleton used the event to reinforce its belief that great whisky shares many qualities with great art. Both require patience, craftsmanship, attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.

The gathering attracted guests from Nairobi’s creative, culinary and lifestyle communities, celebrating not only premium whisky but also the women whose creativity continues to shape Kenya’s cultural landscape.

Through initiatives such as A Taste of Expression, The Singleton is helping redefine whisky culture in Kenya—moving beyond the bottle to create immersive experiences where gastronomy, music, art and meaningful conversations come together in celebration of craftsmanship and human connection.
