Mutuini Level 4 Hospital in Dagoretti South is set to receive medical equipment worth Sh790 million following a commitment by President William Ruto during his recent inspection tour of the facility.

The pledge by the national government is expected to significantly boost healthcare services at the hospital, which is currently undergoing a major upgrade into a Level 5 referral facility with a capacity of 400 beds.

During the visit on March 3, the President assured residents that the government will fully equip the hospital once construction is complete, ensuring the facility provides specialized treatment and modern healthcare services to the community.

The inspection was conducted alongside Johnson Sakaja, who said the project will greatly transform healthcare access in the Dagoretti area and the wider Nairobi region.

The multi-storey hospital project, which had stalled since 2021, was revived through a partnership involving the Ministry of Defence and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

According to officials, the project is now 89 percent complete and is expected to be officially opened in April 2026.

Once completed and equipped, the hospital will feature modern healthcare infrastructure including:
Intensive Care Units (ICU)
High Dependency Units (HDU)
Modern operating theatres
Specialized renal care units
Human milk banks for neonatal care

The advanced equipment will allow the facility to handle complex medical cases that previously had to be referred to national referral hospitals.

The upgrade of Mutuini Hospital is also expected to help ease congestion at Kenyatta National Hospital, which currently handles patients from across the country.

Once operational, the hospital is projected to serve more than 1.5 million patients annually, providing critical healthcare services to residents of Dagoretti, Karen, Ngong, Kikuyu and neighboring parts of Kajiado County.

The facility is also expected to strengthen emergency response and specialized treatment within Nairobi County’s public health system.

Local leaders have welcomed the national government’s commitment to equip the hospital, saying the move will greatly improve healthcare access for thousands of residents who previously relied on distant referral hospitals.

Residents say the upgraded facility will also reduce waiting times for specialized treatment and improve maternal and child healthcare services in the area.

Once fully operational, Mutuini Hospital is expected to become one of the most important public health facilities in Nairobi’s western corridor, providing quality and affordable healthcare to the rapidly growing population.
