Mombasa Deputy Governor Francis Thoya said the county government is determined to ensure all public learning institutions have a conducive environment to operate.
He added that the county government will also ensure pupils in public schools have a conducive learning environment.
“Apart from a conducive learning environment we are also determined to ensure pupils in public learning institutions have adequate extra curricular activities within the institutions,” he stated.
Thoya appealed to parents to ensure confidence in public learning institutions is restored.
He was speaking when he had accompanied Mvita legislator Mohamed Soud Machele during the unveiling of 10 classroom blocks refurbished through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund [NG-CDF] at Serani Primary School in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
The Mombasa Deputy Governor urged county residents to stop the blame game culture and of pointing accusing fingers at each other.
Thoya urged them to focus on ensuring development projects are initiated and to work closely with education stakeholders to improve the sector.
He confirmed that at every end of the the financial year they usually take stock of the national examinations results to gauge the performance of public schools.
“We are concerned with the drop in the mean grade which is likely to contribute to low enrolment in public schools,” he said.
On his part, Mombasa County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of the Department of Education and Digital Transformation Mbwarali Kame called for a proper working relationship between elected leaders to restore the dignity of the education sector in the county.
