The newly elected leadership of the Nairobi branch of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) joined women educators in commemorating International Women’s Day, expressing optimism and renewed commitment to delivering visionary, accountable, and progressive leadership to the union’s membership.

The colourful celebration convened female educators and union officials from across Nairobi, offering a moment of reflection on the remarkable strides women have made within the education sector while reaffirming the imperative of strengthening their participation in leadership and decision making structures within teachers’ unions.

KUPPET Nairobi Branch Chairman Peter Wafula, who graced the occasion, lauded women teachers for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and professionalism in shaping the intellectual and moral fabric of society. He observed that women educators continue to occupy a pivotal role in nurturing future generations and sustaining the country’s education system through diligence, mentorship, and exemplary service.

During the celebration, the newly elected officials, particularly women leaders within the union, expressed profound joy and pride in marking the day. They noted that the growing presence of women in leadership positions within teachers’ unions represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of gender equity and inclusive governance.

The leaders underscored that women in union leadership have persistently championed the welfare of teachers, advocated for equitable opportunities, and amplified the voices of educators within policy discourse. Their ascension to leadership positions, they said, symbolizes both progress and the enduring determination of women to influence transformative change within professional institutions.

Also present were officials from Mwalimu National Sacco, who joined the celebrations and paid tribute to the invaluable contributions of women educators to the education sector and national development. The Sacco officials reiterated their commitment to supporting teachers through financial empowerment initiatives aimed at enhancing economic stability and professional growth.

The convener of the event, Madam Risper, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all attendees for their presence and solidarity during the celebration. She commended women educators for their unity and dedication, noting that such gatherings strengthen the collective voice of teachers within the union. Madam Risper also wished all participants continued success in their professional and personal endeavors, encouraging them to remain steadfast in advancing the interests of educators and promoting women’s leadership within the teaching fraternity.

Wafula further assured members that the newly elected Nairobi leadership is steadfast in its resolve to serve with integrity, transparency, and unwavering dedication. He emphasized that the leadership will prioritize the welfare of members, intensify advocacy for improved working conditions, and foster professional development opportunities for teachers across the county.

The event culminated in a strong call for solidarity among members, with leaders encouraging educators to remain united as the new team endeavors to build a vibrant, responsive, and forward looking KUPPET Nairobi branch capable of effectively championing the interests and aspirations of teachers.
