Former AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman Myke Rabar has been appointed as the Chairman of the Nairobi County Government Liquor Board, where he will serve a three-year term.
Rabar, who previously played a key role in Kenya’s preparations for the continental football tournament, opted to take up the county appointment in place of a potential role as AFCON Chief Executive Officer, citing the need to focus on one responsibility.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Rabar made the decision early, noting that holding both positions concurrently would not have been feasible.
His appointment to the Nairobi Liquor Board places him at the helm of a critical regulatory body responsible for licensing, compliance, and oversight of alcohol-related businesses within Nairobi County.
Rabar is widely known in sports and corporate circles for his leadership experience, and his transition to a county regulatory role marks a shift from sports administration to public service at the devolved level.
The move comes amid broader restructuring efforts linked to AFCON 2027 preparations, as authorities continue to realign leadership roles to strengthen delivery of both sporting and governance mandates.
Observers say his administrative experience could play a key role in enhancing efficiency and enforcement within the liquor licensing sector in Nairobi.
