Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya is set to announce plans to restructure the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the upcoming , in a move aimed at strengthening Kenya’s preparedness for the continental tournament.

The proposed changes will see several members who were involved in organizing last year’s (CHAN) dropped, as the government seeks to bring in fresh expertise and enhance efficiency in planning and execution.

Among the key adjustments, former (FKF) president is set to take up a senior role in the LOC leadership, replacing .

Nyamweya is expected to leverage his extensive experience in football administration, having previously led FKF and played a key role in the development of the sport in Kenya. His return to a central organizing role is seen as part of a broader strategy to inject seasoned leadership into the preparations.

Sources within the sports sector indicate that Nyamweya’s working relationship with could also help streamline coordination between the government and key football stakeholders as the country intensifies readiness efforts.

Kenya is co-hosting the 2027 AFCON tournament alongside regional partners, making the successful organization of the event a top priority for the government. The restructuring of the LOC is therefore viewed as a critical step in ensuring the country meets international standards required by continental football governing bodies.

Mvurya emphasized the need for accountability, efficiency, and experience in delivering a successful tournament, noting that preparations must remain on track to position Kenya as a capable host on the African stage.

The changes signal a renewed push by the government to fine-tune its strategy ahead of the high-profile tournament, which is expected to attract global attention and boost tourism, infrastructure development, and the sports economy.
