The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has awarded a Sh3.9 billion infrastructure contract to a consortium comprising China Road and Bridge Corporation, China Wu Yi Co. Ltd, and Gaps Construction and Engineering Co. Limited of Kenya to develop key road and pedestrian facilities around the Talanta Sports City Stadium.
The project is part of ongoing preparations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is set to co-host, and is aimed at improving traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and overall accessibility to the stadium precinct.

Under the contract, the firms will construct walkways, single carriageways, and footbridges within the stadium’s surrounding road network. The works are expected to take 12 months, followed by an additional 12-month defects notification period to ensure quality and durability.

According to KURA, the scope of the project includes the construction of walkways on both sides of Ngong Road, a dual carriageway linking Ngong Road to Cemetery Road, and footbridges at the Southern Bypass interchange as well as across Ngong Road.

The infrastructure upgrades are expected to ease congestion during major sporting events, enhance pedestrian safety, and support seamless movement for fans, athletes, and officials during AFCON 2027.

Once completed, the project will also deliver long-term benefits to Nairobi residents by improving non-motorised transport infrastructure and strengthening connectivity in the fast-growing corridor surrounding Talanta Sports City.

KURA says the development aligns with the government’s broader urban transport strategy, which prioritises modern, safe, and inclusive road networks to support major international events and everyday city mobility.
