The ongoing enhancement of the key highway corridor linking Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the James Gichuru Road Junction is steadily taking shape, with walkway construction and landscaping works now at an advanced stage.

Progress is particularly visible at the airport entry section, where pedestrian pathways and beautification elements are nearing completion.

The works form part of the broader Capacity Enhancement, Landscaping, and Beautification Project along the James Gichuru Road Junction to JKIA (A8/B10) Highway Corridor — a critical gateway route connecting Nairobi’s central districts to its main international airport.

According to project details, the initiative aims to improve the visual appeal of the corridor while enhancing pedestrian accessibility, road safety, and the overall travel experience for motorists and visitors arriving in the country.

The upgrade is also expected to support increased traffic capacity along the busy route, which serves thousands of daily commuters, airport users, and cargo transport vehicles.

Upon completion, the corridor is projected to reflect modern urban infrastructure standards befitting a major international entry point, aligning with Nairobi’s broader urban renewal and mobility improvement agenda.

Urban planners note that beyond aesthetics, the integration of walkways and landscaping promotes safer non-motorised transport and positions the capital as a more welcoming and organised metropolitan hub.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise Nairobi’s transport infrastructure and enhance the city’s image as a regional economic and aviation hub.
