The High Court in Mombasa has issued arrest warrants for Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja after Mainga failed to honour court summons in a land-eviction case.

The summons stem from a petition filed after more than 3,500 residents of Kibarani and Miritini were evicted in a joint operation by Kenya Railways and the Kenya Pipeline Company. The affected families argue that the demolitions were unlawful and executed without proper notice or resettlement arrangements.

The Court directed that Mainga be traced, arrested, and produced before the judge to explain why he defied earlier orders requiring his personal appearance. The judge also ordered the arrest of IG Kanja for allegedly failing to enforce the directive to bring the Railways boss to court.

In a related complaint, the Kenya Railways Corporation is accused of failing to pay a Mombasa woman Sh45 million in compensation after her property was demolished during the same operation.

The latest developments have intensified scrutiny on the two state agencies as displaced families continue to pursue justice over the contested demolitions.
