Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia celebrated a significant financial boost on Sunday, recording a gate revenue collection of Ksh 1,323,800 during their FKF Premier League match against Ulinzi Stars at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

This collection marks the first time K’Ogalo has surpassed the million-shilling mark since last season’s Mashemeji Derby second leg. The figure represents a noticeable increase from their previous home fixture, a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium, which brought in Ksh 902,900. Their opening fixture against Bidco United at Kasarani had registered Ksh 985,700.

“A total of Ksh 1,323,800 was collected from ticket sales in our match against Ulinzi Stars at Kasarani today. A big thanks to all fans for the support. The collection is a testament to our unity as we continue pushing upwards,” said club treasurer Gerphas Okuku in a statement.

Despite the overwhelming fan turnout, the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw by a battling Ulinzi Stars side.

Gor Mahia got off to a dream start when Felix Oluoch put them ahead within the first six minutes. However, Ulinji Stars quickly responded, with Boniface Muchiri netting the equalizer midway through the first half. Muchiri’s goal extended his scoring run, marking his third consecutive game on the scoresheet.
Following the match, head coach Charles Akonnor admitted his side struggled, especially in the opening half.

“It was a tough game, and I think we were slow in our approach during the first half. We lacked compactness and will need to improve in certain areas,” Akonnor stated.

Gor Mahia will now shift focus to their next league fixture, a potentially tough outing against Kenya Police FC this coming Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.
