KEFOFA president Francis Liboyi lands major African role

By Mark Kinyanjui

In a major win for sports enthusiasts in the region, Francis Liboyi Omukuba, the President of the Kenya Football Fans Federation (KEFOFA), has been appointed to a high-ranking continental position.

Following a constitutive congress of the African Sports Supporters Confederation (AASC/CASS) held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Liboyi was officially named the President of the Eastern Zone for the confederation.

The appointment, signed by AASC President Michel Stanislas Gobou, gives the Kenyan fan leader a mandate to oversee all supporters’ activities across the East African region.

In the role, Liboyi will be tasked with leading the implementation of the confederation’s actions within the Eastern Zone.

He will also work to enhance the reputation of the African Sports Supporters Confederation across regional borders. Furthermore, Liboyi will be working directly with the CASS Permanent Secretariat to align fan activities with continental standards.

The move is seen as a strategic boost for Kenyan football fans, who have recently been seeking more structured representation at both the national and international levels.

By having a Kenyan at the helm of the Eastern Zone, local fans are expected to have a louder voice in continental sports governance and better coordination during major tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The African Sports Supporters Confederation, headquartered in Abidjan, serves as the umbrella body for organized fan groups across Africa, aiming to foster unity, discipline, and vibrant support for African sports.

The appointment took effect officially following the congress, marking a new chapter for sports diplomacy in the region.
