NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 21 – Twelve-time FKF Premier League champions AFC Leopards continued their relentless pursuit of the title with a commanding 2-1 victory over Posta Rangers at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

The win sees Ingwe narrow the gap on league leaders Gor Mahia to just three points, turning up the heat in what is becoming a two-horse race for the 2025/26 crown.

Goals from Kelly Madada and Kayci Odhiambo were enough to secure the maximum points despite a late scare from the ‘Mailmen.

First half – AFC Leopards take initative

AFC Leopards signaled their intent as early as the 3rd minute. Ronald Shichenje and Samuel Semo combined brilliantly on the left wing, setting up Shichenje for a snap shot that forced a fine save from Posta’s custodian, Peter Odhiambo.

Leopards broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through indivicual magic. Kelly Madada latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the 18-yard box and unleashed a ferocious strike that left Odhiambo rooted to the spot.

Leopards almost doubled their lead four minutes later when Shichenje was hacked down at the edge of the area. Tyson Otieno stepped up for the resulting free kick, but his effort agonizingly clipped the crossbar.

While Leopards dominated, Posta Rangers had their moments. In the 32nd minute, Musa Oundo nearly gifted the visitors an equalizer after a rare defensive lapse, but the danger was smothered.

Shortly after, Ronald Shichenje proved his worth at the other end, clearing a goal-bound Posta effort off the line to preserve the lead.

The pressure eventually told in the 28th minute when Kayci Odhiambo rose highest to double the advantage, capitalizing on Posta’s hesitant defending during a set-piece.

Second half -AFC Leopards hang on

In the second half, Leopards coach Fred Ambani sought to refresh his attack, bringing on Victor Omune and Victor Otieno for Samuel Ssenyonjo and James Kinyanjui.

Despite the changes, Posta Rangers refused to go down without a fight. In the 68th minute, Ponda Karisa pulled one back for the visitors. Karisa showcased exceptional footwork, dribbling through a crowded penalty area before slotting the ball home to set up a tense finale.

Keeping the Pressure on K’Ogalo

The win moves AFC Leopards to 40 points, sitting firmly in second place. With Gor Mahia scheduled to play on Sunday, the pressure is now squarely on the defending champions to respond.

Posta Rangers, meanwhile, see their winless streak extend to nine matches, leaving them languishing in the bottom half of the table.
