The first day of the public participation forum on the review and amendment of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Constitution drew a large and enthusiastic turnout at Nyayo Stadium, marking a major step toward strengthening governance in the country’s most successful sport.
Athletics stakeholders from across the country — including coaches, athletes, officials, and regional representatives — engaged in open discussions, offering proposals and feedback on key constitutional clauses. The forum, organized under the oversight of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, aims to ensure inclusivity and transparency in shaping the future of Athletics Kenya.
Officials described the event as a “great success,” noting the constructive tone of the deliberations and the wide range of views expressed on issues such as leadership structures, accountability, and athlete representation.
The public participation process will continue on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Ulinzi Sports Complex, where affiliates including the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Kenya Prisons, and Kenya Police teams are expected to make their submissions.
A final Nairobi session for media, sponsors, and partners is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025, again at Nyayo Stadium.
Athletics Kenya has encouraged all stakeholders to remain actively involved and to submit written recommendations or comments via email to admin@athleticskenya.or.ke by November 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
The ongoing exercise is part of a broader effort to modernize AK’s governance framework and align it with international best practices, as Kenya looks to safeguard its global dominance in athletics.
